Do you wish there was a way to stay focused when your mind is wandering? I know it happens to me, where I have that day of distraction, and just can’t seem to stay on task. I have tried music, but even changing playlists or searching for that ideal song distracts me from working. Auditory stimulation like music or the background noise of a coffee shop can help some people to focus. But music may not be the best choice for you. Pink noise is defined as “random noise having equal energy per octave, and so having more low-frequency components than white noise.” Thanks wikipedia. A great pink noise generator I discovered is called called Coffitivity, think Productivity but with coffee instead of prodding. They have an app you can download to your phone, or just navigate to their website with the same functionality as the app. There are three settings; Morning Murmur, Lunchtime Lounge and University Undertones. Ironically, I put my headphones in and listen to this WHILE AT A COFFEE SHOP, because I find it helps me to block out individual conversations intruding too close to me. Not only does it help me stay focused, here is also the social effect of having earphones on. It tells people you are working and should not be disturbed.

As I sit here in my very boring apartment, my over the ear headphones are whispering the gentle coffee shop sounds, and their magic encouraging me to stay focused.
